Prologue

There will be fleeting moments
and shooting star people
in this lifetime
which will call for
blood to be spilled –
I know,
because I’ve done so,
too many times,
I had to rob a blood bank.

But with you,
I promise differently –
we will feast on
our best memories
until our bellies are full
and goodbye loses its meaning.
I will pack your suitcase with
11:11s, wishbones and dandelions,
and suck the tears from your eyes
while we wait for our last.

When people ask about you,
your name will roll out of my tongue,
like a silent thank you,
a ‘to be continued’,
until our lives intertwine again.
