Remembering to

Close your eyes –
imagine his footsteps coming,
your heart hammering in your chest,
and finally, the sound of the doorbell.
.
Breathe in –
the smell of coffee and take out dimsum,
the laughter healing the sadness in your walls,
a new beginning dancing, waiting.
.
Remember –
his head on your lap, fingers tangled in hair and secrets,
hesitation turning to butterflies,
scars becoming constellations on skin.
.
Do you remember?
.
Two lost souls rediscovering the meaning behind the word love,
the great unknown slowly turning into home,
the past, present and future converging –
.
Until the day you woke up alone.
.
Now, exhale –
let the memory linger for a minute longer,
and then, let it all go.
For real this time.
